According to Venturi, Las Vegas streets were designed around the Strip. These streets have no particular or defined order, however, the Strip displays its own theme in every single corner of the street. On the other hand, Miami was built on a grid system, where every street acts as its own Strip, showcasing its purpose and displaying their program and what they offer. Miami can take advantage of these strips, and possibly use the idea of the unordered streets that outlines suburban Las Vegas to create small walkways for pedestrians to wander around the city, speculating on what they might find around each corner of the grid. The facades should be eye catching, incorporated with signs that can potentially attract people inside. Venturi explains that the benefits of improving the facades or adding signage can help the small business in the area. This idea was implemented along Ocean drive, where the Art-Deco buildings had to incorporate colorful neon signs to attract people inside their business, because the architecture wasn’t helping. The implementation of signage into the facades, maintains the preservation of the building, without having the need to change the entire architecture. Nevertheless, overtime, the signs become a signature aspect of the building, characterizing the architecture and the city.
For example, Lincoln Road is a defined and noticeable Strip in Miami, full of shops, restaurants and business. This street is only accessible by a walkable path, yet, it attracts tourist and residents every day of the year.
