Topic: Newspaper Article
The amount of this work should be between 200-300 words.
See page 15 (Tutorial 5) and page 25 of the study guide for
the specifications. The newspaper article should be no more than 6
months old and can be either from an online news agency or hard
copy paper. The article should relate to an Employment Relations
issue/s. There are a number of issues at the forefront of the news
at the present.
Please be sure to not only summarise the article but also to
critically analyse the issues in the article using concepts from
the lecture and or textbook at a minimum. In other words do not
just retell the story in the article, analyse it using key
concepts.
Please also revise the key features of the Work Choices Act
and Fair Work Australia, make some notes and be prepared to argue
the shortfalls and benefits of each in a class debate. The purpose
of the exercise is to prepare you to defend a position and argue a
case using evidence as you will be doing in the essay. It’s a
great activity and students do get a lot out of it.
