It helps to keep the nation safefrom delinquent juveniles while also providing young offenders with an opportunity to reform.The Slender-Man stabbing and the Jordan Brown case are examples of cases where the juvenilejustice system came under the spotlight for its decisions. This paper examines these cases,including the background, the applicable criminal behaviour theories, and other pertinent issuesrelating to the juvenile courts and juvenile corrections.The Slender Man stabbingThe Slender Man stabbing involved Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier, who tricked oneof their friends, Payton Leutner, towards a forest and stabbed her nineteen times, severelyinjuring her and leaving her to die. A fictional character names the Slender Man, inspired thegirls, and they wanted to appease him (Peck, 2015). The two girls had their trial in the adultcourt, and Weier, in 2017, pleaded guilty of being an accomplice to attempted murder. A juryevaluated Geyser for mental disorders, but she later pleaded guilty. The court would then findboth perpetrators not guilty on grounds of psychological defect/disease. Weier got a 25-years-tolife sentence, which would include at least three years of lockup. She would then have toundergo psychiatric treatment until ...
