My project is about patient falls and the following is my proposed solution to reduce falls in hospitals.
Proposed Solution
In order to reduce the cases of patient falls, there is need to adopt appropriate policy interventions and rules and regulations that will govern the medical providers, patients, and caregivers. The recommended solutions are explained as follows:
Identification of high risk patients
In most healthcare hospitals, identification takes place by wearing red socks. In addition to this measure, the hospital should provide an armband on high risk patients’ while utilizing visual cue outside. Installing armband on patient’s door is an effective way of alerting the healthcare providers about the fall risk.
Safety Companions
The healthcare institutions should increase the number of safety companions for disoriented patients that are unable to follow the issued instructions. The safety companions will provide constant aid and monitoring of patients in effort to prevent fall.
Engage the patient
Keeping the patient busy reduces chances of getting out of bed. This intervention is appropriate for restless and mentally ill patients. The staff members should also educate while partnering with the families in order to discuss ways of preventing fall cases.
